Whilst I have mounted numerous televisions for customers this year I haven’t had an opportunity to post any relevant articles however today was especially interesting and amusing.
I was booked out by a customer for the day to undertake several tasks including assembling flat packs, mounting an electric curtail pole and a tip run. When I arrived the first job I was zealously presented with was to mount a tv into a media wall.
I was informed that the original mount had come away from the wall and with a bit of luck and good fortune the customer had managed to catch the tv just in time and held it until help arrived, his plasterer stroke electrician who originally built the media wall arrived within forty five minutes to help and save the tv, so hats of to the man.
I should mention he wasn’t the person that fitted the original bracket, he had declined that job and someone else was given that task.
The television is only just millimetres taller than the recess in places which was problematic, after this failed installation the tradesman had informed the customer that he wouldn’t be able to find someone who could mount the tv safely, securely and successfully and I understand that a wager was agreed on whether I would be able to do it.

The customer watched and helped at times whilst I assessed the job, measured exactly how to best mount the bracket and install the television, whilst the customer was anxious to begin with especially with his previous experience was overjoyed with the result. The electrician was even messaging him to ask how it went as I understand there was a £20 bet.
Those that know me will confirm I am quite a chatterbox when I am working and I had mentioned to the customer how it had been suggested to me that I could use an impact screwdriver with self taping masonry screws when mounting tv brackets as this would be quicker although I prefer to follow the manufacturers guidelines although it may take a little longer but with consistent results.

The television width fits perfectly into the recess, the top of the tv is literally millimetres higher allowing the base which is slightly curved to lean into the recess.
Later in the day, I was loading some rubbish in the car to take to the tip and I came across the old television mount. On inspection I found the mount was undamaged but had only been secured to the wall with two self tapping masonry screws. That particular design of tilt and turn mount has a vertical spine usually requiring three bolts supplied by the manufacturer. I had to question whether it would have stayed secured to the wall had the appropriate fittings been used.
I will definitely be continuing to follow the manufactures guidelines for the foreseeable future. If you need my help please get in touch on 07873 565498 and feel free to leave any comments and maybe share your own experiences.
